Manistee National
Our two par-71 courses at Manistee offer you a chance to play two very distinctive courses. Each has its own separate personality and different challenges and tests. You can’t get bored here, and you’re certainly not going to leave without playing both Canthooke Valley and Cutters’ Ridge.
Our resort is surrounded by the trees of the Manistee National Forest, formerly a famous lumbering area where millions of white pines were cut down to help build the city of Chicago. In memory of that notable history, we have named our courses to reflect the heritage of the local timber industry. A “canthooke” is a hooking and pulling tool that tree handlers used to roll logs as they were taken down rivers to the lumber mill. A “cutter” was a lumberjack who felled trees.
You can find Manistee National Golf and Resort at 4797 US 31 South Manistee, MI 49660.

Black Forest and Wilderness Valley – The Best in Gaylord Golf
Rolling through 400 acres of lush Northern Michigan woods is the nationally acclaimed Black Forest golf course. Designed by the hottest architect in the game, Tom Doak, Black Forest features spectacular holes that are a feast for the eyes and a challenge for the game. Characterized by dramatic bunkering and undulating greens, Black Forest has been winning awards since it’s opening in 1992. Recently voted #6 in Michigan by Golfweek magazine, Black Forest is playable from 5 sets of tees and is a “must play” on any trip to the north country.
The perfect complement to Black Forest, the Wilderness Valley course is fun, sporty and player friendly. Designed by former tour player and Ryder Cupper, Al Wautrous, the “Valley” was Gaylord’s first “destination course” and is still one of the most popular among the locals. A true “hidden gem”, Wilderness Valley will delight the senses as it meanders through a natural valley between two ridges.
You can find Black Forest Golf Course at 7519 Mancelona Road, Gaylord, MI 49735.
